THE STORY OF FEARLESS STEPS

Diversify the Industry

I was an Investment Banker, in London for 27 years. Suddenly, I became ill in 2013 and was diagnosed in 2014 with a rare brain disease called Chorea, caught from a common cold.

Whilst off from work, I was out shopping for a card with my mum and could not find the image I had in mind. Something stylish and modern for a woman of colour.

I decided then and there to design my own, Fearless Steps was formed. Fear had always kept me back in life, it was time to start taking Steps to move forward.

My business launched in November 2015. I decided to have my cards Hand Drawn by Students.

My aim is to provide a choice of positive images and uplifting wording for all People of Colour, a way to encourage the community. It’s also a great way to promote and positively share young people's success. I have met so many lovely talented teenagers and have worked with nine so far.

There are not enough positive stories about young people. By the end of the year, there will be at least 25 new designs. There is a lot of work to be done.

I intend for Fearless Steps to collaborate with schools, colleges and charities. One of my artists,

15 year old Madyson had cancer at 11 years old and was a patient at Great Ormond Street hospital.

People of Colour have been overlooked by the card industry for years, we truly crave images that are realistic and embrace diversity. We live in a world with a mixture of races.

I truly believe there is a social and moral responsibility to acknowledge and respect the needs of all cultures and races, in all aspects of life.

Onwards and Upwards, I am taking Fearless Steps!!!
